So I bought the WordPress Thesis topic and got occupied. Some may state that distributing a blog/site without a marked blanner isnt an astute methodology, but since I was building the webpage myself, I could bounce directly in and get moving when I had a slight break in squeezing business over the special seasons a year ago. Another issue affecting the planning of this was my finishing of the Reach Certified Online Identity Strategist program toward the finish of March. I assumed, accurately, that I would figure out how to function with site engineers and designers to make a blanner that would fit me and my training. Interim, I worked together with a visual fashioner to make my Executive Career Brand logo, to have it prepared to fabricate the blanner around. Returning to hues. I was reminded through the online character accreditation program and some exploration on hues and individual marking that hues are the best feeling producing components of your image personality. Whats intriguing is that regularly your preferred hues fit your own image. My two primary hues, amethyst purple and lush green, were a simple decision. Individuals who realize me best partner me with purple. Its consistently been my preferred shading to wear and one that looks best on me. I've been utilizing it for years in business adornments. 4 Ways Younger Job Seekers Can Step Up as Baby Boomers Retire

4 Ways Younger Job Seekers Can Step Up as Baby Boomers Retire Baby boomers have always been defined by their sheer numbers. Even now, as they reach retirement age, 41 million baby boomers are still working according to a 2018 report from the Pew Research Center. This equals out to them still accounting for a quarter of the workforce. As more and more retire, there will be opportunities for younger job seekers to step up and assume the baby boomers’ responsibilities. But first, you’re going to have to prove you’re ready to take the next step in your career. By understanding what employers want, both at your current company or another one, you can present yourself in the best light. Here are some tips to landing a job previously held by a baby boomer and ensuring you can take ownership of a role without missing a step: Advancing at Your Current Company If your current organization is a great fit, you might want to make a move without leaving the team. For both you and the company this is a win-win situation. You get career advancement, and your company doesn’t lose a talented employee. Make the most of your situation by taking the following steps: Find a mentor Having a mentor is essential to young job seekers’ careers. Older employees who have been where you are will provide valuable advice to help you learn and make better decisions. Plus, as boomers retire, having one as a mentor will put you on their radar to recommend as a possible replacement. But to get the right mentor you need to be proactive. It’s rare that an experienced employee will approach you with an opportunity. Start by making a list of people in your organization who you already have a relationship. To evaluate if they could be a good mentor, consider: Their accomplishments and if they are something you aspire to How their personality meshes with yours If they will push you to grow and develop How available they typically are Their connections within the organization and outside of it Once you have a list of potential mentors, invite your top choice for coffee and have a conversation about what you’re looking for. Explain what your career plan is and how you think they can help. The more specific you can be the better. It helps them understand exactly what they’d be providing you. Ask what positions are opening soon Employees don’t retire without notice. It takes planning and conversations with company managers and leaders, helping everyone prepare for the transition. However, while upcoming retirements aren’t secrets, you may not be told about coming opportunities. Talk to your manager about your interest in moving up in the company. Don’t say ‘I want Janet’s job when she retires.’ Instead, explain you’re ready for a new challenge and ask for their feedback on what you can do to prepare and train. If you’re not ready to take over the retiring baby boomer’s position, suggest ways you can take on some, but not all, of the responsibilities. This will help you expand your role without setting yourself up for failure. If you want to take the next step in your #career, find out who will be retiring soon and prepare to take their place. Click To Tweet Advancing at Another Company Sometimes the right move for your career is changing companies and making a fresh start. You will still need to prove you have what it takes to fill a more advanced position, however, you’ll approach the situation differently than if you were already in-house. Look for jobs the “old school” way In recent years, companies have turned to social media to recruit younger talent. However, don’t forget companies still use traditional job boards to reach older job seekers especially for non-entry level positions. Don’t neglect the old school ways to find a new job opportunity. Consider adding the following to your job search: In-person networking events Niche job boards Job fairs Find out what skills the company is blindly missing Hiring younger job seekers presents employers with a unique opportunity to fill a position while getting a new set of skills. However, when an employee has performed a job for a long time, the organization may not be aware of alternate skills and ways to grow the role. While baby boomers have experience, a trending concern for years has been that not all have the latest skills. When you’re researching positions, identify the skills that might be useful yet are not in the job description. Look at as many job descriptions from the organization (even those not for your specific department), as well as comparable positions at other companies. Use that to identify any trends of skills the company could inadvertently not be looking for in their job description. Then, when you’re writing cover letters, updating your resume, and in the interview process, showcase the experience you have as well as how these additional skills could improve the team and bring greater value to the company. Prove you deserve the job by showing employers you have valuable skills they currently lack. #careeradvancement Click To Tweet Want to find out more ways to land a more advanced job? How to Develop a Growth Mindset

Instructions to Develop a Growth Mindset Instructions to Develop a Growth Mindset Development attitude, a term begat by analyst Carol Dweck, takes on the position that somebody's latent capacity is unfixed, and one's aptitudes and capacities can be expanded with enthusiasm, preparing, and purposeful exertion. Somebody with a development mentality invites difficulties, and perspectives their disappointments as chances to learn and create . This is a very much established idea, as neuroscience demonstrates that our cerebrum changes and turns out to be increasingly fit when we make a solid effort to develop ourselves. On the other hand, an individual with a fixed mentality considers their to be and capacities as cut in stone. They see their disappointments as a possible danger to their personality, experience issues working through difficulties, and respond sincerely when confronted with snags. Where a development outlook centers around the procedure, learning, and the excursion, the fixed attitude stalls out on results. In case you're a chief, concentrating on development mentality could be a key element for your prosperity! Chiefs with a development mentality exhibit better capacity to focus on data that is conflicting with their desires and presumptions about their workers. They are additionally demonstrated to be more information driven because of execution changes in their group. Keeping a development outlook assists administrators with testing their inclinations and settle on better choices dependent on realities, with regards to practices and execution. On the other side of this, administrators with a fixed attitude are more averse to give input and training to their representatives, particularly when they see them to be less equipped. They additionally battle to get valuable criticism. As an administrator, it's basic that building up a development outlook is consistently top of brain. To create and use a more grounded development attitude, think about the accompanying points of view: Create mindfulness around your own attitude Isabel Duarte , care and administration mentor proposes see and be interested about when you're moving toward a circumstance with a fixed mentality, and consider how you can reframe it. Think about a case where you encountered sudden positive change inside yourself. What do you credit those progressions to? By what means can you re-copy that sort of development? Dweck proposes asking yourself the accompanying inquiries: Dweck's examination clarifies that extraordinary chiefs don't attempt to demonstrate that they are superior to other people, and don't subvert the individuals around them to expand their own capacity. They center around developing themselves, and building groups of extremely incredible individuals, who consistently develop and create. In case you're dealing with a group, consider the manner in which you act in the work environment towards others. Do you center around your own capacity, and accomplishments, more than on your workers' prosperity? On the off chance that you end up gesturing indeed, consider the manners in which you could re-alter your core interest. For instance, you could search for chances to give and offer credit to your group for function admirably done. Re-assessing a circumstance such that expels danger is an enthusiastic guideline methodology that can be utilized by anybody! When encountering difficulties at work, ask yourself inquiries like this: Duarte says Figure out how to re-assess negative circumstances and expect positive plan. When something neglects to fall in accordance with your desires, make an effort not to become involved with the content of how you need things to go. At the point when you're confronted with a test you believe you can't move past, as opposed to stating I can't do this, reword this sentence to I can't do this yet . This little change in attitude can lastingly affect your capacity to work through arrangements and remain persuaded. When you've accomplished the work for yourself, consider how to encourage this outlook with your group . Dweck traces the accompanying plans to consider: Pass on that the association esteems learning and tirelessness, not simply instant virtuoso or ability It's imperative to introduce abilities as learnable and make a space where disappointment while learning, is acknowledged. To get your group alright with this thought, you can share anecdotes about occasions when you were not fruitful and fizzled at something. Speak the truth about how you've conquered impediments as well. Spot an incentive on advancement inside your group. As a supervisor, would you say you are giving your group apprenticeships, workshops, instructing, or stretch assignments? These are extraordinary approaches to empower learning. Duarte recommends that with regards to consistently group work process, look for chances to appoint assignments that enable your group to learn and advance their abilities Give input in a manner that advances learning and future achievement The lines for criticism inside your group ought to consistently be open, both for you to provide for your group, and for them to provide for you. At the point when you notice a representative falling into a fixed outlook, help them to remember when they were effective in something that was trying from the start. Criticism can be an extraordinary chance to question on botches made . Instead of disregarding or censuring them, set aside the effort to clarify the best possible procedure, and mentor representatives to commit importance from their errors. Building up a development outlook won't just assistance you at work, yet seeing someone, and every single other part of life! So look inwards and ask yourself how you can push towards development every day. Seeking Digital Natives - Copeland Coaching

Seeking Digital Natives I’ve noticed something on job postings lately. Companies are seeking “digital natives.” “Digital native” is used on digital marketing jobs. My corporate career is as a digital marketer. These words are often used on job postings for anything from a search engine optimization manager to a vice president of digital marketing. This term makes sense at first. But, the definition of a digital native, according to Dictionary.com, is “a person born or brought up during the age of digital technology and therefore familiar with computers and the internet from an early age.” Those who are turning forty this year probably started to use the internet around 1995, when they were sophomores in high school if they were lucky. That was in the time of the dial up modem and America Online. Their parents were ahead of the game to have a home computer then. In all likelihood, they really began to use computers when they went to college. It should be noted that I’m omitting early Mac computers and things like Atari for the purposes of this column. I’m talking about the real deal internet. Digital natives had the internet in elementary school or middle school. Wikipedia says digital natives “are often used to describe the digital gap in terms of the ability of technological use among people born from the 1980 onward and those born before.” By this definition, a digital native would be thirty-eight years old or younger today. Let that soak in. A job description that specifically requests that someone is thirty-eight years old or less. Why does this happen? I don’t have the answer for you. I’d like to know this myself. I thought that the idea of a job posting was to hire someone with a certain skillset rather than a certain age. I also heard this rumor that discriminating on the basis of age when hiring is not allowed. In fact, I think there may be something called the Age Discrimination in Employment Act. Yet, despite this, if you search for the term “digital native” (in quotes) on any of the job websites, you’ll find many, many job postings looking for them. A quick search today landed me on a Senior Producer role. The second sentence of the job posting reads, “We want you on the team if you are an experienced digital native with experience in news and politics and are looking to bring your combined expertise to be a leader on MSNBC.com.” We should be hiring based on skill, not age. The idea that anyone over thirty-eight is unable to work in the digital world is sad and just plain wrong. The phrase “digital native” sounds stylish, but if you’re writing job descriptions, think about what this really means. In what other context would it be okay to say, “If you’re under thirty-nine, please apply”? Ask for the skills you want in a candidate, not their age. I hope these tips have helped you. In spite of the fact that expert clothing is an unquestionable requirement in for all intents and purposes any working environment, what comprises proficient clothing can change fiercely relying upon calling, boss, and area. In spite of the fact that you're probably not going to wear substantial garments on easygoing Fridays, such days despite everything require a closet aware of what's proper in the working environment. Here are a few customs that apply to most easygoing dress days: Try not to Wear Sweats, Pajamas, Or Lounge Wear Because you're dressing calmly doesn't mean you ought to disregard what your garments state about you and your work. One of the primary reasons proficient clothing exists is to impart trust in one's appearance; proficient clothing is regularly intended to make you put your best self forward. Wearing sweats, night robe, or parlor garments would just serve to make you look at lethargic without flinching of others. These sorts of garments, by configuration, don't fit particularly well and are not regularly intended to be worn to the workplace. A decent general guideline is to wear nothing to work that you would wear in bed or relaxing on the love seat at home. DO Wear Jeans Pants are a superb option in contrast to slacks or dress jeans, which are regular in proficient clothing. Be aware of the kind of pants you wear however. Troubled pants, pants with gaps in them or those shrouded in paint splatter are commonly unsatisfactory as they look muddled. Fit is significant as well. DON'T Just Roll Out Of Bed Easygoing Friday isn't equivalent to simply woke-up-Sunday morning, implying that while your closet may be loose, your preparing shouldn't be. Try not to disregard your appearance by not brushing your hair or washing, or by not holding a candle to the current situation cosmetics (in the event that you ordinarily do). Continuously make certain to put your best self forward, particularly in case you're in easygoing clothing since the subtleties are considerably progressively significant and obvious. DO Wear Appropriate Shoes Flip failures are for the most part not permitted in the working environment since the vast majority aren't keen on observing their collaborators' uncovered feet. Sneakers and shoes are not generally perfect either as they can dress a look excessively coolly. Artful dance pads (and particular sorts of shoes) are a phenomenal choice for ladies, mixing both style and solace, while men ought to consider loafers as an easygoing option in contrast to increasingly prohibitive business shoes. 3 Phrases That Kill The Effectiveness of Your Executive Resume

3 Phrases That Kill The Effectiveness of Your Executive Resume Want to distinguish your leadership brand among competing candidates? Then ditch the boring language you’ve seen on other executive resumes. Just because other resumes (professionally created or self-written) employ a blend of monotonous, overused words doesn’t mean you have to follow suit. Shake things up and inject some power into your personal brand message by refusing to add these mundane descriptors to your executive resume: 1 â€" “Accomplished leader.” Did you copy this opening line from another resume? If so, youre in good company. Why you should reconsider this phrase:    its a no-brainer and does you a disservice. Youre better off telling companies what’s different about your accomplishments so you can have a conversation about your unique brand value. What could you say instead? Market-Aware CEO COO Behind Millions in Profits  (shown on this sample CEO resume) CEO and new-market proponent launching XYZ Company’s first scalable growth strategy, with 26% year-over-year revenue results Generated #1 Revenue Customer Churn Metrics for 16 Straight Quarters  (from a Chief Revenue Sales Officer resume) 2. “Over XXX years of experience…” Continually updated your resume over the years and cant think of what else to say? Why you should reconsider:   years of experience are NOT always an asset in the job search, especially as you advance into prime territory for age bias. Earlier in your career, those first 8-10 years under your belt make you a mid-career asset (experienced, but not quite expensive). Don’t let employers see your 20+ years of history as a reason they can’t afford you! Longevity doesn’t always mean effectiveness. We’ve all known colleagues who just put in their time, merely surviving during decades of experience. Therefore, you’ll need to focus on ROI, rather than the length of your tenure. What could you say instead? Global experience leading business development to an all-time high of 35% annual growth (in spite of economic downturn).= Rapid promotions to VP of IT (exceeding colleague career paths) based on new robotics and AI solutions Senior sales operations executive behind competitive benchmarking and an industry-leading 43% rise in revenue 3 â€" “Seasoned.” Trying to make your case as the top senior executive with this descriptor? Why you should reconsider: no matter how you put it, this description is going to sound as if you’ve got one foot into retirement. See point #2 regarding age bias in the job search. There’s many other ways to note your lengthy experience and results, without making references to your age or seniority. What could you say instead? Energetic executive regarded as innovator and performance driver for teams across Americas, APAC, Middle East Technology Sales Rainmaker Champion for Top Oracle Products (shown on this Senior Sales Director Resume for a candidate in his early 50’s) VP Operations credited with shaping manufacturing strategy for expansion into 5 new, profitable international markets In short, break away from those all too well-used phrases â€" and add some energetic language to your executive resume! Describing yourself in terms of ROI and leadership scope helps employers see your authentic value and influence â€" and makes your resume more engaging to read.

I realize that on the off chance that they are shown, they'll be an extraordinary achievement, yet I was unable to be increasingly apathetic regarding it since I realize they are terrible, I'm sure of it. Monet wrote. For a stickler, nothing is ever immaculate enough.Perfection is a dream we trust it improves us however hurts us. Compulsiveness is anything but a norm, however a method of living. The more you attempt to be great, the more regrettable you feel.Perfectionism Won't Make You PerfectIf you search for flawlessness, you'll never be content.?- Leo TolstoyThe 1908's scene wasn't the first run through Monet disposed of his work. The French craftsman wrecked numerous works of art previously. They were not immaculate enough. The brain research of compulsiveness is somewhat perplexing it has both positive and unfavorable effects.Perfectionists endeavor to create faultless work. And furthermore have more elevated levels of inspiration and center than non-perfectionists.Monet would not paint except if the light of the sun reflected accurately how he would have preferred it. His fixation pushed his pinnacle level of performance. Many specialists fabricated a notoriety for setting their bar excessively high. Some devastated their work out of dissatisfaction others, to repudiate their initial creation.Charles Dickens consumed 20 years of his letters and papers to shroud an issue. Vladimir Nabokov needed his work to vanish after his demise. John Baldessari incinerated a portion of his initial works of art and baked them into cookies. So , are rigid, unreachable exclusive expectations the key to success? Not necessarily.Successful fussbudgets are fruitful notwithstanding it, not in light of it.That's the fundamental end from look into by clinician Tom Greenspon. As he clarifies in Moving Past Perfect, If you're agonizing more over how you are getting along than what you are doing, you'll stumble. There are two unmistakable sub-measurements of perfectionism.Excellence-chasing hairsplitting having an exclusive requirement can improve our performance. Failure-keeping away from perfectionism, on the other hand, is the dread of committing errors. The incongruity is that, without committing errors, we can't impeccable our work. All fussbudgets experience the ill effects of inconvenient impacts in any case in the event that they are looking for greatness or keeping away from disappointment. Their interior voice continues saying: You are bad enough.During his lifetime, Franz Kafka distributed a bunch of shorter works. He incre ased unassuming basic consideration. Tormented without anyone else question, Kafka burned an immense amount of his writing. The Czech writer is currently viewed as one of the significant figures of twentieth century literature.Everything baffles fussbudgets. They want to turn into their harshest judges.Perfectionism has gotten a scourge, as indicated by the World Health Association. Also, that is bad news. A record number of individuals are experiencing serious despondency or uneasiness disorders.Beating yourself up for botches or not meeting desires makes greater frustration. Hairsplitting causes you to feel embarrassed about who you are.The Illusion of the High BarWe've transformed compulsiveness into a symbol of respect. Be that as it may, there's not something to be glad of.What's your shortcoming? One of the most widely recognized responses to this inquiry question is, I am a fussbudget. People need to show they are acceptable to the point that their 'shortcoming' is the quest for excellence.Culturally, we see compulsiveness as a positive. But, improve at work? That's the inquiry that Laurens Steed, a Miami University's educator, asked. The answer: not necessarily.Steed and group directed a meta-investigation of 95 studies spanning four decades. They found that hairsplitting is a substantially more huge shortcoming than a great many people think. It's expected that being a fussbudget is something worth being thankful for, however our discoveries go against what we verifiably thought, said Steed. Compulsiveness is a unimaginable objective. Having a high bar is a moving objective. The better you do, the better you should perform. Hairsplitting never gives you a break.Perfectionists approach the world dressed in high contrast terms. They hold everybody to unreasonable norms. You either have a high bar, or you are mediocre. But the world isn't dark and white. There are more beneficial objectives than perfection.Understanding the contrast between sound endeavoring and hairsplitting is basic to getting your life. Research shows that hairsplitting hampers achievement. Truth be told, it's frequently the way to sorrow, uneasiness, enslavement and life loss of motion. Brené BrownAdopting too much exclusive expectations can set yourself for disappointment. It is possible that they are difficult to meet. Or then again you accomplish them to the detriment of your joy.Michael Law expressed, At its root, hairsplitting isn't generally about a profound love of being fastidious. It's about dre ad. Dread of committing an error. Dread of disillusioning others. Dread of disappointment. Dread of success.Barba Streisand is a self-proclaimed fussbudget. Her most recent collection highlights unreleased tunes from past decades. She at first idea they were excessively imperfect. All in light of the fact that each had one word she didn't like.Meticulousness is fine. Also, is at times important. Be that as it may, compulsiveness can deaden you.I see this all when instructing teams.By attempting to stay away from botches, organizations fail to dispatch. Anything shy of flawlessness feels unsuitable. They dread a little error could transform into a catastrophe.Perfectionism is the enemy of advancement both at an individual and gathering level.Stop Trying to Perfect YourselfThere's a contrast between making progress toward greatness and attempting to be perfect.Do you love having the final word, putting the completing touch, or rectifying what individuals do or say? Are you fixated on attempting to discover mistakes?Perfectionism can get poisonous. Utilizing flawlessness as an approach to gauge our self-esteem is hurtful. It regularly prompts disappointment, self-uncertainty, and fatigue. We feel worthless.Perfectionism isn't tied in with taking a stab at greatness it's a method of being.Experts found that compulsiveness has become a lifestyle. It makes and enhances mental issues. Sticklers have a dangerous relationship with themselves. As Paul L. Hewitt, from the University of British Columbia, clarifies, It is anything but a perspective, but a method of being in the world. For a fussbudget, nothing and nobody is ever acceptable enough.Hewitt's examination shows that sticklers need something beyond idealizing things. They need to consummate their identity.Perfectionists take a stab at faultlessness they need an ideal result or execution. Fussbudgets are fixated on being (saw as) great. They can't concede their own flaws.Perfectionism is the deception of culminating the self. The quest for flawlessness makes our lives anything other than great. It wrecks our happiness, connections, and prosperity. We disregard our essential needs, such as eating and resting, just to get work done.Perfectionism is a developing pestilence. Holding unreasonable principles is the reason for rising pressure, uneasiness, melancholy, and self-destructive thoughts.External pressure socially-recommended hairsplitting is hurting our confidence. Everybody appears to anticipate that us should be great. Our self-esteem relies upon our achievements. When Georgia O'Keeffe moved toward an incredible finish, she needed to cleanse her work. The craftsman annihilated numerous works of art all through her profession for a similar explanation. She needed her notoriety to remain strong. As Brené Brown wrote, Healthy endeavoring is self-centered: How would i be able to improve? Compulsiveness is other-centered: What will they think?Setting ridiculous exclusive requirements is harmful. We feel useless when we understand we are not faultless. Disappointment equivalents to self-defeat.Good enough may be, well, perfectBetter to accomplish something defectively than to do nothing flawlessly.?- Robert H. SchulerIncreased self-awareness is indispensable. Understand that hairsplitting can affect your work both emphatically and negatively.Embrace being defenseless. Acknowledge you will never be great. Be caring to yourself. Life is a work in progress.Start by breaking the high-bar/low-bar division. Set a feasible bar. Challenge yourself without killing yourself.Laurens Steed proposes moving our mindset: good enough might conceivably be OK.Learn to stop. You don't have to compose a sentence multiple times. Sooner or later, the progressions won't move the needle. An excess of examination can really hurt your work.Focus on your wellbeing. Many specialists lived tormented lives. Their fixations ruled out bliss. What's the purpose of getting popular to the detriment of your satisfaction and health?Become alright with imperfection. Make botches deliberately and don't fix them. This technique presentation treatment was created by Dr. Amy Przeworski. She prescribes individuals to tie their shoes unevenly. Or then again to leave a comma or a period out of a paper.Whatever your fixation is, disturb it. A little misstep won't make the entire worthless.Stop contrasting with others. Be your own measuring stick. Contrasting with others is misleading. Job Searching - The Federal Resume Writing Workshop

Job Searching - The Federal Resume Writing WorkshopJob-hunting is difficult enough when you know what you want to do and how to go about it, but getting all of your ducks in a row can be even more difficult if you do not have a workshop or some other aid to help you. A good place to find a training course or workshop to help you on your job hunt is the United States Government Resume Writing Workshop, JBM-HH. These workshops and training courses are meant to help you learn to write your resume in the right way so that it is as clear and accurate as possible, and they are offered by some of the best job search organizations. What is JBM-HH? It is the acronym for the High Level Federal Resume Workshop, and it is run by Job Search For Your Career. This is an excellent resource for anyone who is looking for tips, strategies, and techniques to help you write a good resume. The workshop will focus on two basic parts of resume writing: employer and candidate.Employer: If you are looking for a job, one of the most important parts of your resume will be the employer's section. You may want to first go to this workshop to read over the samples provided by the workshop organizers and select the information you think is most relevant to your own situation. From there, you can try to edit and adapt the information so that it is as accurate as possible.Candidate: If you are looking for a job, it is important to keep in mind that you are not just competing with other applicants, but also the employers who might be hiring. As such, it is very important to present yourself in the best possible light. A good way to do this is to ask to use a specific template for the career section of your resume. There are many ways you can approach the JBM-HH workshop. In some of the courses, you can learn through video or audio and then actually use what you have learned. In others, you can actually take the course with no video or audio and then either learn through written assignments and pra ctice exercises or simply watch and listen to the videos. The majority of the time spent at the federal resume writing workshop will be spent on the employer and candidate sections of your resume. For those interested in applying for a job, the participants will be guided through a few key writing tips that will help you get started writing a quality resume. Also, for those who are already employed, there will be helpful information about how to improve your job interview skills and enhance your appearance and professional image. The workshops are normally held in person once or twice a year, so you will probably need to attend the workshop at least a couple of times to get the most from it. Participants are given access to interactive whiteboards and online tutorials, as well as a full range of conference call to help you get your career off to a good start. It is easy to see why the federal resume writing workshop, JBM-HH, is so valuable. Once you start to see some results from your efforts at the workshop, you will wonder how you ever went about it without it.

Biggest Social Media Mistakes that Can Get You Fired - Personal Branding Blog - Stand Out In Your Career

Biggest Social Media Mistakes that Can Get You Fired - Personal Branding Blog - Stand Out In Your Career There are many benefits of using social media such as connecting with friends and family who live far away or following the news and latest trends. However, if you misuse it, it can get you in trouble and destroy your whole career. Making an Offensive Comment: Never post something racist, sexist or offensive. Remember, in 2013 Justine Sacco tweeted “Going to Africa. Hope I don’t get AIDS. Just kidding. I’m white!”  before boarding a plane from New York to South Africa for her trip. By the time she landed in South Africa, she found out that she was already fired from her job at IAC. There are numerous examples similar to this one. Therefore, think twice before you post something to social media because it can go viral in seconds and can cost you your entire career. Posting on a “Sick” Day: Everybody can have days that they don’t want to work and especially if the weather is nice, you may want to go to a park or a beach to relax and have some fun. Also, during the week when everybody is at work, these kinds of places are usually less crowded enabling you to enjoy your time more. Therefore, sometimes you may want to call in sick and skip work to go outside. However, the biggest mistake you can do is to take your pictures on a park, beach, etc. in your “sick” day and post them online instantly. Just hold off on them until the weekend and if you use your “sick” day with your friends, tell your friends not to tag you or not to post any pictures of you online. Otherwise, if your coworkers see that you are using your “sick” day having fun instead of spending at home resting, you may get the pink slip the next day. Job Searching from Work: Don’t make your job search public. Don’t make your LinkedIn profile title “Open for new opportunities” or don’t tweet to headhunters. Keep your job search to yourself. At least, use direct messaging tools. Also, don’t search for a new job at work because IT may monitor your computer or one of your coworkers can accidentally see from your monitor that you are searching for a new job when s/he is passing by around your desk. Then, s/he can tell this news to your boss and your boss may think that you are not happy in your current job and may take steps to let you go immediately. No one likes an employee who is not committed to his/her employer.

Send Etiquette for apologizing in an email

Send Etiquette for apologizing in an email By Will Schwalbe Email is great for minor apologies especially when you think your transgression might not really need an apology at all. A classic is the, Im so sorry I didnt spend more time with you at my party kind of apology, which is usually greeted with the classic, Dont be silly, I had a blast, and it was lovely of you to invite me response. Any time you get a No harm, no foul email in return, you know that either you did nothing wrong after all, or that your email apology has won you forgiveness. But if you are thinking of apologizing in an email for a more serious transgression, keep in mind that very bad behavior obviously requires a major amount of contrition. For example, if youve said something awful about someone and suspect it got back to him; hurt someones feelings; missed an important meeting or occasion; accidentally destroyed someones stuff; forgot to do something important all of these are big things, and an apology that is seen as insincere or insufficient could compound your crime. Before you hit send on your please forgive me email, here are some things to keep in mind: 1. Is email really the best way to apologize or are you just hiding behind a computer screen? Because it is so easy to email an apology, people dont always take email apologies seriously. Sometimes the very fact that you are apologizing on email can add salt to the wound. If you dont receive a reply to your email apology, its generally a good indication that it fell short. 2. Emails speed and ease make it a great way to start an apology. Remorse is a dish best served hot. Just make sure, though, that the person to whom you are apologizing knows that you will be saying sorry in other ways, too. You can always email, I wanted to let you know right away how sorry I am about spilling coffee all over the architectural model you spent all weekend building. But make sure to add something to your email like, Im willing to stay all weekend to help you build another. And you will find a bottle of wine waiting for you when you get home. 3. Put the word Sorry or Apologies in the Subject line. If you dont do this, the aggrieved party might not even open your email. 4. This is one of the many times you dont want to Cc without permission. The person you offended may want everyone to know you apologized. Or, he may want to keep it secret. Promiscuous Ccing can compound the original offense. For example, Im so sorry I blurted out that comment about your personal hygiene problem is all very well and fine unless you Cc a whole mess of people and thus send the indiscretion out even wider. Start focused and ask permission to expand the list. Im so sorry I blurted out that comment about your personal hygiene problem please let me know if you want me to apologize to all the others who were present at the meeting, either by email or in person or both is a much better way of handling it. Also, always write an apology with the expectation that it will be forwarded without your permission. Oh, and do remember that a true apology is, by its very nature, an admission of guilt. The bottom line: Email does not mean never having to say youre sorry. Sometimes, you have to say it and show it, not write it and send it. Will Schwalbe is the co-author with David Shipley of Send: The Essential Guide to Email for Office and Home.

How a Resume Writing Service Can Help You Get the Job You Want

How a Resume Writing Service Can Help You Get the Job You WantIf you are considering using a resume writing service to help you get your job, you may be surprised to find out that many of the writers charge a fee for their services. The reason that they charge a fee is so that they can pass on some of the costs to you. They can't offer you any help or support, unless you agree to pay a fee. You need to keep in mind that they may not be able to write your resume for free, and it will still be an improvement over what you were using. The cost of a resume writing service is a small price to pay when you consider the benefits that it can give you in getting a job. The first benefit that it gives you is time. You can finish your resume in one day, as opposed to months for someone who is not experienced in this field. The second benefit is that it will save you from the embarrassment of having a bad resume. When you hire a resume writing service, they will spend a little time and effort on w riting your resume. Their first priority is to make sure that it is professional looking. They will check the grammar and punctuation, making sure that it is error free. They will also make sure that all of the information on the resume is correct.Their complete customer service means that they will reply to any questions you have before you send them your resume. Your resume will be carefully evaluated and if they feel that it is good enough, they will forward it on to the right person for you. If they do not feel that it is good enough, they will tell you why and how they can improve it. You should ask for their best rates, because you want them to be your top choice, but you don't want to be spending a lot of money when they offer it for free.It is a good idea to look at resumes before you hire one to see which ones they like the best. Look for good use of capitalization, correct spelling and punctuation, and a good overall layout. Some companies may even suggest that you change your resume so that it is more effective.Ask your staff for any suggestions you may have, and make sure that they are willing to look at your resume before they send it out to someone else. Be sure that they understand how to do a good job, and let them know what you expect of them. You do not want to be trying to decide what company to use without ever knowing if they can meet your needs.Resumes have been around for hundreds of years, and most companies prefer them to be professional looking. If you know someone that works for a company, you can send them a resume or ask them to write one for you. A little research will help you choose the right service for your needs.Knowing what to look for is the best way to ensure that you get a good write up. Many of the writers that work for agencies or recruiters are paid on a commission basis, so they are not required to be the best writer. If you use a professional writer, you will save yourself a lot of stress.

EU students find Canada more attractive than UK post-Brexit - Debut

EU students find Canada more attractive than UK post-Brexit - Debut This really isnt a good look. News has broken that Canada has overtaken the United Kingdom as a desirable study destination for EU students. Yup. A Redbrick Research study surveyed 219 international students at UK universities to find out which was the most attractive English speaking country to them in 2016. Here are the results. 1. Canada  ???? 2. United Kingdom  ???? 3. Australia  ???? 4. United States of America  ???? 5. New Zealand  ???? These results see our dear old United Kingdom lose the top spot which it held in 2015. This is on the heels of the news that applications to UK universities from the EU have dropped 9% in the six months since Brexit. Now, we cant really sit here and act surprised. In the historic vote, 52% of us resoundingly said to these students that they didnt want them here (hey, dont look at us). Combine that with the fact that Theresa Mays government seems intent on making it harder for students to come to the UK, and a hostile environment is created where we are turning away the continents best and brightest. Now, theyd rather be running through the 6ix instead. Current mood. Its not just us either. The United States has suffered too at the hands of the so-called Trump Effect, taking a heavy fall of its own from 2nd place in 2015 to 4th in 2016. Which pretty much proves our point.  ?? All that being said, EU students, we cant really blame you one bit. Weve all considered the big move to Canada at one point or another in the past year, especially with the inauguration of Big Orange coming this week. Why, just look at all these Tweets now the american dream is moving to canada â€" Mira Gonzalez (@miragonz) 10 January 2017 How close are you to moving to Canada? pic.twitter.com/M1K2hHba5L â€" Megan Gamme (@MeganGamme) 6 January 2017 yeah, probably moving to Canada cause i dont see racism going away even a little bit in my lifetime ?????? â€" BUBE 2X (@_DntTALK) 6 January 2017 See? So, EU students, if youre wondering if its just you, its not just you. Were not keen on being here either. In fact, Justin Trudeau, can we come too? Well take that as a yes. 5 Resources to Help Weather the Storm When Losing Your Job - CareerAlley

5 Resources to Help Weather the Storm When Losing Your Job - CareerAlley We may receive compensation when you click on links to products from our partners. A friend of mine recently lost his job (his company shut down, no severance and no benefits) and, while he was fine financially while he was working, he is in financial distress now that he is out of work. While unemployment benefits covers a part of the salary gap, there is still a gaping hole for most people. Short of filing for bankruptcy, which is more difficult in recent years and certainly an embarrassing and drastic step, there are some things that you can do to ease some of the financial pain. Looking for a new job is stressful and time consuming enough, you want to minimize the time spent on financial difficulties so that you have time to look for a job (which will also help your financial situation. Todays post is focused both on, easing the financial pain and first steps in job search when losing your job and planning ahead (in case you lose your job). Preparing for [easyazon_link asin=0983119201 locale=US new_window=default nofollow=default tag=caree07-20 add_to_cart=default cloaking=default localization=default popups=default]Job Loss[/easyazon_link]: While some of these tips wont help if you lose your job suddenly, many times people are aware that their job is at risk and some of these tips will help you prepare for the worst. Financial planning for possible job loss Coming up with a financial plan before you lose your job will make you that much moreprepared for job loss. If youve planned correctly, saved and invested, even if you lose your job suddenly you can use some tools(such as track you spending and research government assistance). Know Your Investment: While investing your savings will help you yield better returns, it is essential that you know every detail about any potential investment that you are thinking about making. Do not be afraid to ask questions when you are meeting with the equity firm representative. There is a good chance that you will not understand some of the language in the investment agreement. Ask the representative to explain it to you in simple terms. Do not sign anything until you are completely sure that you understand it. You might want to have your lawyer take a look at an equity firm contract before you sign it. What to Do If You Lose Your Job If you are lucky, you will get a severance package and be eligible for medical coverage under COBRA. This article is posted on www.schwabmoneywise.com and provides 7 action points for immediate action. The article covers a variety of topics, all are important if they apply to you (such as 401k, creating a budget, looking at other forms of assistance, etc.). The article also has embedded links for additional information. Also take a look at the Changing Jobs link on the left hand side of the page. Youve lost your job, what you need to do:[easyazon_link asin=1414113692 locale=US new_window=default nofollow=default tag=caree07-20 add_to_cart=default cloaking=default localization=default popups=default]Losing your job[/easyazon_link] can put you in a deer caught in the headlights situation where you are so overwhelmed you not only dont know what to do first, you actually dont do anything. The posts below will help you make a plan, and then it is a matter of executing on that plan. Remember, having an action plan will make you feel a little less stressed and, once you start ticking off some of the completed items you will become even more motivated and focused. I lost my job, now what? This one is from CareerAlley and is my short list of 7 things to do once youve lost your job. This is the short list, but includes the important items to think about, starting with coming to terms with your loss (and yes, it is very similar to losing a loved one). While you need to do all of the items on this list, the most important item is making a plan. 10 Things To Do After You Lose Your Job Once youve lost your job, you need to get mobilized. This article, from Forbes.com, provides their list of 10 things to do after losing your job. Very different than the list from the paragraph above, these tips are mostly focused on making sure you are in the right frame of mind to get back on the horse. Filling in the gaps While having all of the right tools (please see Job Search Marketing Toolkit) is a given in terms of being prepared, there are some other things to consider. Over a prolonged job search, maximizing your inflow of cash is as important as looking for a job. And, while you will have more time to look for a job if you are unemployed (as opposed to looking for a job while you are still employed), this is hardly a first choice strategy. So, in an effort to fill in the gaps and stay current, you should consider working as a consultant or contractor until you find your full time job. Stop Searching, Start Working: 2 Things You Should do while Unemployed [easyazon_link asin=0764553690 locale=US new_window=default nofollow=default tag=caree07-20 add_to_cart=default cloaking=default localization=default popups=default]Freelancing[/easyazon_link] is one of the best ways to fill the gap while unemployed. In addition to extra cash, freelancing will keep you current and introduce you to people who may just decide to hire you. This article provides a few tips on how to approach freelancing (which is better than freeloading!). It is essential that you know every detail about any potential investment that you are thinking about making.
