Job Searching - The Federal Resume Writing WorkshopJob-hunting is difficult enough when you know what you want to do and how to go about it, but getting all of your ducks in a row can be even more difficult if you do not have a workshop or some other aid to help you. A good place to find a training course or workshop to help you on your job hunt is the United States Government Resume Writing Workshop, JBM-HH. These workshops and training courses are meant to help you learn to write your resume in the right way so that it is as clear and accurate as possible, and they are offered by some of the best job search organizations.What is JBM-HH? It is the acronym for the High Level Federal Resume Workshop, and it is run by Job Search For Your Career. This is an excellent resource for anyone who is looking for tips, strategies, and techniques to help you write a good resume. The workshop will focus on two basic parts of resume writing: employer and candidate.Employer: If you are looking for a job, one of the most important parts of your resume will be the employer's section. However, if you misuse it, it can get you in trouble and destroy your whole career. Making an Offensive Comment: Never post something racist, sexist or offensive. Remember, in 2013 Justine Sacco tweeted “Going to Africa. Hope I don’t get AIDS. Just kidding. I’m white!”  before boarding a plane from New York to South Africa for her trip. By the time she landed in South Africa, she found out that she was already fired from her job at IAC. There are numerous examples similar to this one. Therefore, think twice before you post something to social media because it can go viral in seconds and can cost you your entire career. Posting on a “Sick” Day: Everybody can have days that they don’t want to work and especially if the weather is nice, you may want to go to a park or a beach to relax and have some fun. Also, during the week when everybody is at work, these kinds of places are usually less crowded enabling you to enjoy your time more. Therefore, sometimes you may want to call in sick and skip work to go outside. However, the biggest mistake you can do is to take your pictures on a park, beach, etc. in your “sick” day and post them online instantly. Just hold off on them until the weekend and if you use your “sick” day with your friends, tell your friends not to tag you or not to post any pictures of you online. Otherwise, if your coworkers see that you are using your “sick” day having fun instead of spending at home resting, you may get the pink slip the next day. Job Searching from Work: Don’t make your job search public. Don’t make your LinkedIn profile title “Open for new opportunities” or don’t tweet to headhunters. Keep your job search to yourself. At least, use direct messaging tools. Also, don’t search for a new job at work because IT may monitor your computer or one of your coworkers can accidentally see from your monitor that you are searching for a new job when s/he is passing by around your desk. Then, s/he can tell this news to your boss and your boss may think that you are not happy in your current job and may take steps to let you go immediately. No one likes an employee who is not committed to his/her employer.

Send Etiquette for apologizing in an email By Will Schwalbe Email is great for minor apologies especially when you think your transgression might not really need an apology at all. A classic is the, Im so sorry I didnt spend more time with you at my party kind of apology, which is usually greeted with the classic, Dont be silly, I had a blast, and it was lovely of you to invite me response. Any time you get a No harm, no foul email in return, you know that either you did nothing wrong after all, or that your email apology has won you forgiveness. But if you are thinking of apologizing in an email for a more serious transgression, keep in mind that very bad behavior obviously requires a major amount of contrition. For example, if youve said something awful about someone and suspect it got back to him; hurt someones feelings; missed an important meeting or occasion; accidentally destroyed someones stuff; forgot to do something important all of these are big things, and an apology that is seen as insincere or insufficient could compound your crime. Before you hit send on your please forgive me email, here are some things to keep in mind: 1. Is email really the best way to apologize or are you just hiding behind a computer screen? Because it is so easy to email an apology, people dont always take email apologies seriously. Sometimes the very fact that you are apologizing on email can add salt to the wound. If you dont receive a reply to your email apology, its generally a good indication that it fell short. 2. Emails speed and ease make it a great way to start an apology. Remorse is a dish best served hot. Just make sure, though, that the person to whom you are apologizing knows that you will be saying sorry in other ways, too. You can always email, I wanted to let you know right away how sorry I am about spilling coffee all over the architectural model you spent all weekend building. But make sure to add something to your email like, Im willing to stay all weekend to help you build another. And you will find a bottle of wine waiting for you when you get home. 3. Put the word Sorry or Apologies in the Subject line. If you dont do this, the aggrieved party might not even open your email. 4. This is one of the many times you dont want to Cc without permission. The person you offended may want everyone to know you apologized. Or, he may want to keep it secret. Promiscuous Ccing can compound the original offense. For example, Im so sorry I blurted out that comment about your personal hygiene problem is all very well and fine unless you Cc a whole mess of people and thus send the indiscretion out even wider. Start focused and ask permission to expand the list. Im so sorry I blurted out that comment about your personal hygiene problem please let me know if you want me to apologize to all the others who were present at the meeting, either by email or in person or both is a much better way of handling it. Also, always write an apology with the expectation that it will be forwarded without your permission. Oh, and do remember that a true apology is, by its very nature, an admission of guilt. The bottom line: Email does not mean never having to say youre sorry. Sometimes, you have to say it and show it, not write it and send it. EU students find Canada more attractive than UK post-Brexit - Debut This really isnt a good look. News has broken that Canada has overtaken the United Kingdom as a desirable study destination for EU students. Yup. A Redbrick Research study surveyed 219 international students at UK universities to find out which was the most attractive English speaking country to them in 2016. Here are the results. 1. Canada  ???? 2. United Kingdom  ???? 3. Australia  ???? 4. United States of America  ???? 5. New Zealand  ???? These results see our dear old United Kingdom lose the top spot which it held in 2015. This is on the heels of the news that applications to UK universities from the EU have dropped 9% in the six months since Brexit. Now, we cant really sit here and act surprised. In the historic vote, 52% of us resoundingly said to these students that they didnt want them here (hey, dont look at us). Combine that with the fact that Theresa Mays government seems intent on making it harder for students to come to the UK, and a hostile environment is created where we are turning away the continents best and brightest. Now, theyd rather be running through the 6ix instead. Current mood. Its not just us either. The United States has suffered too at the hands of the so-called Trump Effect, taking a heavy fall of its own from 2nd place in 2015 to 4th in 2016. Which pretty much proves our point.  ?? All that being said, EU students, we cant really blame you one bit. Weve all considered the big move to Canada at one point or another in the past year, especially with the inauguration of Big Orange coming this week.
